Way Forward...
We continue to work towards achieving our overarching vision - every individual family is able to have a portfolio of decent livelihoods so that it can lead a decent quality of life. Within its broad contours, our long-term objective still remains to ensure availability of cost-effective reliable quality livelihoods support to the communities (poor), their organizations and their support organizations/projects, on a scale that is required. This support has to meet a wide-array of services depending on the context, livelihoods sector/sub-sector/activity and the location.
Integrated network(s) of self-reliant and viable Livelihoods Support Organizations (LSOs) provide one or more of these services, either on the basis of a geographic location/area or around a livelihood/livelihood sub-sector(s) or both. Existing and new independent units, and platforms/forums of volunteers, professionals, community facilitators etc. provide services to various livelihoods players. Simultaneously, the increased availability of livelihoods support individuals (LSIs) - professionals and community livelihoods resource persons - offer services to the poor and their organizations directly or through support organizations. Further, the network(s) endeavors to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness and branding support, through certification/accreditation and renewal processes.
Identifying, inducting and building competent mentors who in turn mentor the anchors/leads of the LSOs (and the teams in LSOs) in particular and the professionals – LSIs - working in the larger domain of livelihoods of the poor in general, is part of the game plan. With passion for enhancing the livelihoods of the poor and deep understanding into livelihoods of the poor, mentors help replication and accelerate scaling and spreading of LSOs and increased availability of livelihoods support. LSOs also help replication/scale-up with increased/expanded mandate/area of operation for themselves.
As the livelihoods management becomes an independent discipline and becomes one of the preferred professions/careers, being a community livelihoods resource person/paraprofessional becomes a dignified livelihood available to many, Akshara envisions the parents encouraging their children, the teachers encouraging their students etc., to get into livelihoods management and service the livelihoods of the poor leading to prosperity everywhere.
